THE LETTER

I tried so hard to tell you what I think you want to know, I've tried so hard to call you on the telephone. I've written you letters but I've thrown them all away, except the one I kept to read to you today. Do you remember what I said the other day, when you were smiling at my words? I remember everything; the expressions on your face ... even the song of the birds. I want to ask you something ... I guess I'm kind of shy ... I want to know the way into your life. I've written you letters, but I've thrown them all away, except the one I kept to read to you today. The letter begins with the words "I love you". How it ends I'm not exactly sure. It is up to you to give directions and the turns. At least that's what I think I heard. I've written you letters, I've thrown them all away, except the one I kept to read to you today. I will call you on the telephone. I will read you the letter

AFTER THE RAIN

After the rain, after the sun comes out. The world is cleansed of all the things and suddenly the air is very clear. After the rain, it always smells so good. The world is full of energy and everywhere the synergy is near. Cloudy skies have almost passed away, and water flows across the land and brings new life in almost every way. After the rain, the way the asphalt smells. It's different than a forest tree that finally lost it's grip and then it fell. Cloudy skies have almost passed away, and water flows across the land and brings new life in almost every way. After the rain, take the time to look around. Don't think about the things that might be happening elsewhere. Cloudy skies have almost passed away, and water flows across the land and brings new life in almost every way.

(After the sun comes out. After the rain is gone. After the world is clean. After the clouds are done......)

A PLACE WHERE YOU CAN GO

I want to find a place that's way up in the mountains, somewhere far away from the city lights. I'm sure they have some really, really great houses and I will find one that will fit me just right. You have to run away sometimes when it gets so out of control, you have to find a place where you can go. Do you remember that old novel? I think it was 1984. We didn't think, we didn't think it was possible, but now we find it is right next door. Can you believe it? Well, I thought we were better than that. We had the power to change it and we passed. I'd like to find a place that's far across the ocean, somewhere far across the open sea. I would hitch a ride on a sailing ship, I'd grab a chair and sit down by a coconut tree. You have to run away sometimes when it gets so out of control, you have to find a place where you can go. On a nice wide beach I would build me a shanty, with fishnets, abalone, and starfish on the wall. I think that it would be way, way more than plenty. 'Cause I found that I just don't need very much at all. The man said it was a really strange trip, and we are nearing the end. I still seek the mountains around the bend. I want to find a place that's far up in the mountains. I would walk in, turn around, and slam the door. I think I'll pick up a really, really great novel, and I will read it just like I did that one before. Can you believe it? Well, I thought we were better than that. We had the power to change it and we passed. So you have to run away sometimes when it gets so out of control. You have to find a palace, you have to find somewhere, you have to find a place where you can go

GET TOGETHER.

Love is but a song we sing, fear's the way we die. You can make the mountains ring or make an angel cry. Though the bird is on the wing and you may not know why. Come on, people now, smile on your brother, everybody get together, try to love one another right now. Some may come and some may go; he shall surely pass. When the one that left us here returns for us at last. We are but a moment's sunlight fading in the grass. Come on, people now, smile on your brother. Everybody get together, try to love one another right now. Come on people now, smile on your brother, everybody get together, try to love one another right now. If you hear the song I sing you will understand. You hold the key to love and fear in your trembling hand. Just one key unlocks them both, it's there at your command. Come on people now, smile on your brother, everybody get together, try to love one another right now. Come on people now, smile on your brother, everybody get together, try to love one another right now. Right now.   (Written by Chet Powers, used by permission, chord arrangement by Michael W. MERLEY

You  have a special place in my heart, even though you may not completely understand. You have a special place in my heart, you sweet, sweet little man. I love the way that you put your trust in me. I like the way you turn your face to the wind. You come to me when I call you on your own terms. You sweet, sweet little man. You're my sweet, sweet K-9 friend. I know that you love me even more than you like yourself. This little song is for Merley, my best friend. You have a special place in my heart, even though you may not completely understand. You have a special place in my heart, you sweet, sweet little man.

STUPID GAME

I would like to tell you what I see is coming down. It is starting to rain like the dickens. The clouds are coming in and they're rolling right along, coming at your face like a missile. A storm is coming down and it is roaring like a train, going to a world going insane. What is it about history that it must repeat it's self? Look around and see that's a stupid game ... that we do again and again ... that we will do, all over again. What a stupid game. I hope that you will listen to the words I have to say. I hope that you will understand the message. I hope that you will take me as I am sitting here today, I hope that you will understand the mission. Will you stop what you are doing right now? Take a moment of your time to look around! Sunlight, break on through these clouds, and blow this storm away, drive this storm away. This stupid game. What a stupid game. A storm is coming down and it is roaring like a train going to a world going insane. What is it about history that it must repeat its self? Look around and see that's a stupid game ...  that we do again and again ... that we will do, all over again. What a stupid game, a dangerous game.

CARE FOR ME

I don't know if I can love you the way I really should. I'd like to share an experience but only if you would. I've tried to shake what I feel deep inside "cause I know it's hard to live upon this crazy ride. Oh, I know that I love you 'cause it takes my breath away. The beauty of your innocence brings sunshine to my day. I see you there with the sparkle in your eyes, It's a frozen moment kept inside a photograph of time. Oh, care for me, Oh care for me. I think about you day to day while I carry this inside. I feel that I should run away and find someplace to hide. You know that it's hard not to speak what's in my mind when you're standing there in front of me with those beautiful eyes. But now I see you leave upon your journey in the sun, and Im standing there and watching you and nothing can be done. But warm is the memory of your body close to mine, and I'll carry that inside of me until the end of time. Oh, care for me, Oh care for me.

STICK AROUND YOU.

Well, 50 miles the other way I left my gal just to get away. I left her there at home all by herself. I left her there just to get away, it got so bad I couldn't stay. I stomped out of the house all by myself. I called my friend, said "I'm coming down." He said "Don't worry I'll be around." I kept on driving away in my truck. I made it as far as the other town when I crapped my pants with something brown. I realized I might have made a mistake. I thought to my self how I'd made a mess, of circumstance and wilderness. I love that gal with all of my heart. I turned around and drove back home and I called her on the telephone, I told her that I loved her with all of my heart. She said "Come back I want you to stay", I said "Ok, I'll never go away, I don't like to be out there all by myself." She said "Ok, I will let you stay, as long as you promise,  never go away." "Ok, as long as you stick around yourself." I said "I promise, I promise you true, I never knew anyone I love like you." I'll stick around, stick around, stick around you. I'll stick around, stick around, stick around you."

BOSTON

On the way out from Boston on a plane that was delayed for the wind. I don't go there often but I think I will again. Maybe I could like it and all of you that live there must be blessed. But still there are no contours like the Western U.S. You have a boyfriend and I have a wife, it's as easy as the roll of the dice. And you can sell your trophies or anything you like but nothing's very simple in this life. On the way out from Harvard on a plane from Boston to that salty lake. I was captured by your mind and the smile on your face. But you have a boyfriend and I have a wife, it's as easy as the roll of the dice. And you can sell your trophies or anything you like, but nothing's very simple in this life. On the way out from Boston leaving Harvard way in the past. I was surprised what they taught me 'cause I thought they were better than that. I met you on the airplane and I met you in the clear, and I liked the way you talked to me and the way you whispered in my ear. But you have a boyfriend and I have a wife, it's as easy as the roll of the dice. And you can sell your trophies or anything you like, but nothing's very simple in this life. Nothing's very simple in this life.

RAINBOW & GOLD

I remember a story told to me long ago. Something about a rainbow and gold. It was a dream told so very long ago, but no one ever found the gold. So I came to understand and know. Sometimes I wonder why it took so long for me to grow. I was impatient to know. I wandered all around the world because I thought I had so much time. It would be so long until I grew old. Well, I came to understand and know. I thin I finally realized time is not on our side, and they say that youth is wasted on the young. I remember a story told to me long ago, something about a rainbow and gold. But what I found is so much better: A live that is full and bold. Ahh, this I came to understand and know.

OPENING THE OPENING.

Something that I've seen has taken everything I know and changed it out, for all I can be and all I see. Somewhere in my soul there must be places I can hide where I can go to get away from what I know. Descending down the stairway, spinning towards the foyer, reacting to a knock upon the door. Reaching for the handle of the doorway with a candle, opening the opening for you. You are a breath of fresh air to me in the way that you carry yourself. You took my world and you changed it to the core. I thought I had it all figured out util you, you came along, until you knocked so gently on my door, until you knocked with such care upon my door. I'm reaching for the handle of the doorway with a candle, I'm opening the opening for you. Opening the opening for you.

AN ADVENTURE IN LIFE.

Gonna farm this place 'till I run out of money, sounds like it is but it ain't very funny. Work so hard to raise my beef, run so fast gonna wreck my feet. Gonna work them bees 'till they run out of honey, sounds like it is but it ain't about the money. Gonna work so hard to raise them cows, do way more than time allows. "Cause I'm farmin' and I get up with the dawn, I work my boney fingers 'till they're gone. And I'm 'farmin', but I marvel every day, the things I get to do and say!! Gonna grab my gal, make her my honey, work her hard 'till she runs out of money. Buy her dresses and stuff like that and she can buy me a cowboy hat. Gonna work this place and chase away the bunnies, watch them rodents or they'll eat you out of money. Get me a hand, gonna call him "Jack", work him hard and never cut him slack. 'Cause I'm 'farmin, and I get up with the dawn, I work my boney fingers till they're gone. And I'm 'farmin, and I marvel every day, the things I get too do and say!! Ain't about the money, Ain't about the money, it's all about adventure in life.

PIECES OF MY SOUL.

You must know it means so much to me, I'd rather be with you and the children... So full of smiles and such small voices, they run to me, and carry me away with their laughter. You must be aware of the conflict in my mind, and how I need to leave behind, some pieces of my soul for my children. It runs in me, and carries me away with the creation. And I'll share with you the time of the day, and you'll share with me understanding. And I'll share with you the melody I hear and share my soul with my children. I gain so many smiles from my family, and I'd go so many miles to be at home. But I must respect my obligation, to sing a song and write it all alone. You must know, it means so much to me. I'd rather be with you and the children. So full of smiles and such small voices, they run to me, and fill me with such joy and emotion. And I'll share with you the time of the day, and you'll share with me understanding. And I'll share with you the melody I hear and share my soul with my children. Share my soul with my children.

M38A1

Hey Baby, 'wanna go for a ride in my jeep? I got her many years ago and I got her really cheap. She'll go almost anywhere, anywhere you want to go. She'll climb all over these mountains but she'll climb 'em really slow. She always got me there and back, she never let me down. Something to think about as long as you're in town. Hey baby, 'wanna go for a ride in my jeep? We can ford the river, she's shallow not deep. I know a few things, just a thing or two. I'll make you real happy, I can tell you're kinda blue. I'll bring up your spirit, show your some real fun. Take you for a ride in my M38A1. Let me tell you 'bout this jeep I got, she was born in '53. Been all over this world you know from sea to shining sea. She's a veteran of the military, an M38A1, look it up on the internet, you'll figure out which one. I only paid a grand for a million dollar fun. Had more fun than anyone alive under the sun! Come on, babe, take a ride... take a chance you will survive in my M38A1. Come on over baby, check out my wheels. When we get back I'll buy a really big meal. We can open up some wine, have a drink or two or three, have some fish cobbler fresh in from Tennessee. I'd play the radio but I ain't got one. So listen to the muffler on my M38A1. It sounds this way: That's right, just like this... Hey baby, 'wanna go for a ride in my jeep? We'll go find a meadow, a place that's really sweet. We can sit down on the grass, way down there by the creek. Hey baby, what'dya think? 'Wanna go for a ride in my jeep? I saw you on the street and beckoned you to come, take a ride with me in my M38A1. Come on babe!! Come for a ride in my M-38-A-1  !!!
